Modern Warfare has a new face. The number of wounded in battle has always exceeded those who have died but today that ratio has tilted drastically. The death toll in modern warfare no longer gives us even a semblance of the casualties of war.
16 to 1 was formed in order to make every American aware
that for each of our soldiers that die in modern warfare, an increasingly
larger group are surviving maimed and seriously injured.
Prior to the Gulf War of 1991, the general ratio of wounded to deaths in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam was approximately 2.5 wounded for each that died.
In 2008 a congressional probe started in 2002 concluded that 175,000 troops have Gulf War Syndrome as a specific disease from the 1991 Gulf War. This would put the ratio for that war as high as 650 to 1.
American's must be brought closer to the realities of those that protect and defend our shores. We must better understand the commitment our son's and daughter's have suffered and the true scale of our engagements.
16 to 1 is also dedicated to the creation of a Living War Memorial - one in which both those that died and those that have been maimed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are honored.
Your donations will be used to spread the word and to create a 3D rendering of the proposed Living War Memorial - please donate - please volunteer - please become involved!
