about the show
The one man exhibition Spectrascope featuring Los Angeles based artist Jay Stuckey will open at sixteen: one gallery on Saturday July 12, 2003 with a reception from 7-10 pm. Stuckey’s paintings and mixed-media works on paper depict hordes of warplanes engaged in a pandemonium of crossfire. From the artist’s constant clustering of large and small images of aircrafts is created a limitless time, space, and distance; yet at the same time creates a claustrophobia within the viewer. Along with his subject matter, Stuckey’s expressive and somewhat cartoon drawing style invokes the fascination that boys hold for things that blow up, burst and detonate. Spectrascope will close on Sunday August 17, 2003.
