about the show
Sixteen:One gallery is pleased to present Ungenius Alchemy, featuring works by John Knuth and James Krone. The Exhibition opens February 17 and runs through March 17, 2007. An opening reception for the artists will be held Saturday, February 17, from 7-10 p.m.

Ungenius Alchemy examines the alchemy of art in a Los Angeles setting. Knuth and Krone question the struggle of desperately trying to turn something base into something of value. Knuth becomes a modern alchemist, turning items as mundane and ordinary as sugar and a light bulb, into something with the perception of value. Krone’s alchemy involves the transition of the “everyman” into celebrity. His paintings explore peoples struggling for celebrity and to what lengths they are willing to go for that fame. As Knuth and Krone begin the common transformation of turning canvas and paint into art, perhaps they give credence to the theory of alchemy.
